Play for Paula
Paula Takacs was a phenomenal athlete and beloved member of Carmel Country Club in Charlotte, NC. Through the generosity of this incredible club and its Women’s Tennis Association, an annual Play for Paula tennis tournament raises very substantial funds for our foundation’s mission.
This year’s Play for Paula event will be bigger than ever! Members, mark your calendar for the evening of November 15 and morning of November 16! Planning is underway and we are excited! Details and registration info will be disseminated early fall.
The ladies tennis teams have held the annual Play for Paula tennis tournament since 2011, donating over $40,000 to date! The 2016 tournament was held on August 26th with almost 40 members in attendance! The ladies enjoyed a continental breakfast, a fun tennis match, and a slew of door prizes and goody bags. Thank you to Dr. Kim, Chair of Solid Tumor Oncology and Investigative Therapeutics, Levine Cancer Institute, for updating our attendees about the various sarcoma research projects at the Institute that they are passionately helping to fund. Thank you also to Julia McGrath, leiomyosarcoma warrior, for her soulful account of her diagnosis and treatment story. We honor her courage to speak at the gathering. We are sure that it gave everyone a better understanding of what is like to be diagnosed “like a bolt out of the blue” with this aggressive and rare cancer.
We thank Carmel Country Club and its tennis members for honoring the memory of our fearless friend Paula Takacs with this very special event!
